Day 11, day 12 and day 13.

Okay so we are in New York now and I have access to internet.  So now it is time to update my blog :) . Well, well, well the past few days have been awesome so I am very excited to share with you.

7/3/2009 – Day 10

We pretty much spent this day driving through South and North Carolina into Washington D.C. We woke up somewhat early, hung out with Travis for a few and took off. On our way out of Georgia we stopped at a fruit stand on a corner and got some fresh fruit.  The Georgia peaches were AMAZING!!! sooo fresh and delicious and juicy. mmmmmm. After the fruit stand we made a few stops at some gas stations hunting for postcards. However, we were unsuccessful. We made our way out of Atlanta and into South Carolina. On the way to D.C. we decided we wanted to have Bennigans for dinner. We orginally decided to go to Waffle House but then chose Bennigans. After driving into North Carolina for a while we discovered that there was no Bennigans. Instead we found a restaurant that was shut down called Atlantis. So we decided to check out another Bennigans that Franky (our gps) listed.  After about an hour of driving we discovered that this Bennigans had not been built yet! Thats 2 for 2!!!! We stopped at a gas station for some gas and coincidentaly there was a Waffle House right there. So we decided to just eat there because it was already 10pm. It was my first time and I’ve heard so much good things about it from Danny.  It was pretty delicious and cheap as well. There was only one waitress there and you could tell she was having a rough night because it was busy and she was the only waitress. I kind of felt bad for her. We finished eating and continued to D.C. We didn’t have a place to stay on this evening so we decided to sleep in a rest area. It wasn’t bad at all and I got good sleep.  The ground smelt like bum piss though which is very disgusting…but funny. Laxy kept saying it smelt like BUM PISS. haha.

Happy 4th of July!!

Seriously, there is no better way to celebrate fourth of july than in the nations capital. It is wild! So to start off from the beginning of the day.  We woke up around 9-9:3am.  From the rest area we drove into Washington D.C. It was only about 10 minutes outside of D.C. Our first stop was a place called Sticky Fingers. They specialize in vegan/veggie foods.  I got a bagel with cream cheese, Jake and Laxy both got vegan cinnamon rolls. They were delicous!! After we enjoyed some sticky fingers we walked down the street for a little. We ended up turning around and heading back to the car. We freshened up and made our way to the subway station.  We bought our day passes, and headed to the ball park to catch a nice ball game in Washington D.C. on the 4th of July.  Nothing beats some good ol E.C.P.T (East Coast Public Transportation). The subway dropped us off right in front of the stadium. I went and picked up our tickets via will call and we made our way into the stadium. They were giving out free mini flags, it was very patriotic.  We explored the stadium, took some pics behind home plate and watched some batting practice.  Gregor Blanco (some guy on the braves) fouled a ball behind homeplate and one of the coaches threw the ball to me! It was a nice little 4th of July souvenir.  After hanging out behind the dugout for a little longer we headed to our seats.  The game was a good one.  The braves were winning but lost it in the end, which keeps our streak of home teams winning when we see them.  Adam Dunn hit his 300th homerun and it was a bomb! I was getting a soda at a concession stand and I hear the crowd go wild me and this random guy look back and just see this ball flying towards us. It hits the seats right behind us and the fans go wild.  After I got my soda I walked up to where the guy who caught it was and he was on the jumbo tron! I stood to the right and saw myself up there! I then saw laxy heading to the bathroom so I joined him.  After the game we made our way back to the crowded subway station and went back to the car.  Back at the car we called some hotels because we wanted to get a place to sleep on this evening after the celebrations.  After calling many places we found a hotel room for a semi-decent price and booked it. It was time to make our way to the celebration!! We took the subway and ended up near the capital building.  On our way we signed a beam that is going to be used for whatever they are building where the World Trade Center used to be.  Afterwards, we kept walking.  We got to the capital building and it was packed!!! There were so many people everywhere.  The entire area in front of the capital was fenced off and people were standing in line to get into this area.  There was a concert going on and a lady asked us if we knew who was performing, but we didn’t. Later on that night at our hotel we discovered it was Taylor Hicks from American Idol who performed. We started walking towards the Washington Monument.  It was like a huge festival from the capital to the washington monument. The entire mall area was packed with people waiting for the firework show, it was crazy. Laxy and I got some fresh squeezed limeade.  We got to the washington monument and the area around it was also blocked off and there was a line to get in.  The line was not as long but we still did not want to wait. We decided to keep walking and make our way to the Lincoln Memorial. When we got to the street we noticed another entrance to the area of the washington monument and there were no lines! So we decided to go ahead and take advantage of that and go in. We went up to the monument and took many photos. We walked around the area and there was a stage with a band playing. The area kept filling up with people.  We could see the Lincoln Memorial and it was packed! The entire staircase was full of people.  They had the area around the reflection pool closed off though. That was where they were shooting fireworks from later that night.  We hung out on the grass for a while as the sun went down. While we were sitting there Laxy got stung by a bee….twice!! Once on the arm and as he tried to pull the stinger our it stung him on the finger. It was his first time being stung, and thankfully he was not allergic. It was crazy though I could just imagine the pain he must have felt. One time, when I was in 4th grade I stepped on a bee. My big toe got very fat and it hurt so bad. Not a good experience.  Anyway, he got over it quickly and the night went on. Once the sun set the firework show began. It was real nice because it just started randomly and caught everyone by surprise. This was honestly the best firework show I have ever seen… EVER! From the beginning it was a finale, and the finale was the most insane finale ever! The fireworks were huge and it felt great standing right there at the washington monument watching this with the hundreds of thousands of people, possible more. Jake and I watched the fireworks together going crazy while Adam and Laxy were somewhere else. After the firework show we searched for a while and eventually found them through all the people.  It was time to make our way back to the car and then to the hotel.  The streets were packed, they were only letting a certiain amount of people into the subway at a time so we decided to just walk back to our car. It was about a 3 mile walk and we made it back in about an hour or so. We walked through some pretty interesting neighborhoods, they were lighting off fireworks and bbqin all over. Oh and earlier when we were walking around we walked by this block party, it was probably crackin by the night time. We got back to the car, and drove to the hotel.  It was a motel 6, and it was probably the shittiest place I have ever stayed. We pulled up and had to check our car in. Then we unloaded our goods and went to the room. There was this homie chillin on the balcony just watchin over the lot. I went to the car about an hour later to get my camera charger and this guy was peeking through the windows! He was very shady looking.  Well after watching some sports highlights we went to bed.

7/5/2009

So today we woke up around 10 or so. Checked out of the nice hotel…and drove to Philadelphia. We got into philly around 2. We orginally planned to catch a game but did not make it into the city in time. Oh well, I don’t think any of us cared at all.  The phillies suck. Anyway, on our way we stopped in Maryland and got some postcards, went to a target and got gas. This gas station had a computer where you can order a sub sandwich by touching what you want and someone makes it in the back! Well back to Philly. So we got in around 2. We went to a Cheesesteak place that had vegan ones called Giannes.  I got a cheesesteak hoagie hold the cheese. It was delicious.  We also stopped at a record shop for a while and we saw a Maddison look-a-like from behind/the side. It was funny.  After hanging around south street for a while we went into downtown. In Downtown we found a parking lot, parked and began our walk.  On our way to JFK Blvd. a lady stopped us asking if we had change for a dollar in coins so she could pay for her parking meter. Jake and I gave her some coins because we are nice.  We started at love park. We took some pictures and there was a bum there asking to take peoples pictures. He would then ask for money. We made sure to avoid him. We then walked down the street, and walked down some more. We stopped at one of the big fountains and looked around. Then we continued walking until we got to the Rocky steps. When we got there we saw a guy pull up blasting the rocky song, he jumped out of his car wearing sweats and red converse, he ran up the steps and put his hands up in celebration just like rocky did.  It was really funny. After the rocky steps we made our way back to love park. On our way back we stopped to play in the fountain for awhile. The water was really cold so it was really refreshing, although the weather was cool.  We stopped at a 7-11 across the street from Love park, got some postcards and refreshments and then looked up how to get to the Liberty Bell. I looked up how to get there on my phone and we walked there. It was about six blocks from where the 7-11 was. We also watched some skater kids on our way. We got to the liberty bell and actually got to go inside to the building where it sits! We took some photos with it and then went across the street to independence hall. This place was really cool, we hopped on a tour that takes you into the hall and we got to go into the room where the declaration of independence was actually signed! It was really neat, after hanging around the historical district for a while we went back to the car and left for New York.  We drove for about four hours to New York. It was cool because we got to drive under the hudson river and into the city as well. It was really nice with all the lights at night. We got to Laxy’s uncles house and hung out for a while and now I’m just blogging. It looks like I’m pretty much done with today though. Tomorrow we are going to a Yankees game, I will keep you updated. Oh and I will upload some pictures soon.

Goodnight
