So it has been a week since I have posted anything on my blog. Right now I am in Chicago at a hotel with internet access and its day 27. Everything is going great and you will be hearing about it all shortly.
7/12/2009 -Day 20.
Today we woke up in a rest area. We got ready and made our way into detroit to catch a tigers game. The tigers beat the Indians 1 – 0 and Cleet Thomas from the Tigers was a double away from hitting for the cycle. They got this deal at this park where you get 2 hotdogs, a pickle, some cole slaw and a bag of chips for 8 dollars, what a steal! After the game we drove about an hour into Tex’s area Point Huron. We played some catch in a mall parking lot. We then found Tex working at his Target and hung out there for a while. A security guard that works with him was telling us about these “buttery ledges” to skate at a park. Tex got off work and we went to his house to drop our stuff off and meet his parents. We actually only met his step dad John and his lil bro Alex. We put our stuff downstairs in the basement then left to get dinner. We ate at a Cici’s and Tex treated us, what a nice guy. After Cici’s he took us around town, showed us the lake/beach, the boardwalk/ park and some other local sites. We then headed back to his place, watched some TV and went to sleep.
7/13/2009 – Day 21.
We had to wake up at 8 today because Tex had to work in the morning and his stepdad did not want anyone in the house without Tex being there. We left our stuff down stairs and hung out in Michigan to kill time until the home run derby at 8. We went to the park, played some catch. The park was near the buttery ledges. We also went to a Meijers, its like a walmart. Afterwards we went to the Lakeside mall about 30 minutes away. It reminded me of a Westminster mall. I got wetzel bits, so delicious. After the mall we went to some thrift stores. We then drove back with about an hour before the home run derby. We hung out inside a barnes and noble to kill some time, then went to Chillis in the same lot to watch. It was so weird, people were smoking inside the restaurant! Prince fielder won the home run derby. My two picks were albert pujols and joe mauer. I ate some mini buffalo chicken bites. Tex got off work at 10 and met us at chilis. So I asked him if we could stay with him tonight too, but it was kind of last minute because I asked him last night. He said it was cool though. I guess his stepdad John was not cool with it and said we could not stay at all. Text didn’t really make it too clear so we thought we were good to stay that night too. Well after chillis we went back to tex’s and we asked if downstairs was cool to sleep in. He then told us his parents didnt want us sleeping there at all! It was very awkard because all our stuff was downstairs in his stepdads room. Well tex went and asked his parents if it was cool if we could sleep in his room. After a couple minutes he came back and said it was cool. The only thing is we couldnt go down into the basement to get our stuff. So we had to wait until the morning to get our goods. In the end Im glad we had a place to stay.
7/14/2009 – Day 22.
So we got up and went down stairs to get our goods. Tex’s step dad left the TV on so we thought he was still home! or that someone was down there so at first we were afraid to go down there. We finally went down there and no one was there thankfully. I got my stuff out of there as quick as possible. We were paranoid that his step dad would be home soon because Tex said he comes home for lunch everyday. Well we got out of there without any awkward encounters. We went to a local cafe Called Daybreak Cafe. It was really good and cheap too.
It was now time to make our way to Canada. We decided we were going to go even though Jake didn’t have a passport. We took the bridge into Canada. We had to pull into inspection at the border, after they checked the car and did some paperwork we were good to go. It was pretty easy! So that obstacle was done, now getting out was all we had to worry about. We went to Toronto. It is a really nice city, we walked around found some huge mall and their version of time square (thats what I said it was, its not officially called that). We saw the space need they have, its super cool. We also drove around downtown and saw the sites. We then walked around looking for a pizza place to sit and watch the all star game. We found a nice little place on a college street. We watched the game, the american league won. Afterwards we walked through the city to our car. It was time for Montreal.
7/15/2009 – Day 23.
Bonjour,
Laxy drove overnight into Montreal and woke me up at 6 because it was my turn to drive. The wild thing is that all the signs in Montreal were in French! It was so awesome, completely different than Toronto. The city had really cool buildings too. I found a park to park at and we slept for a few hours. When he woke up, Adam walked around the park with his laptop looking for some internet. We woke up and went to a book store. We then went to check out the hostel we were planning to stay in. Adam went into the hostel and asked the guy where some spots were, but he couldnt really understand adam. He told adam to check out mount royal street. So we did, we walked around and there were a bunch of nice little shopts. After, we checked out the olympic stadium. I then looked up places to see in Montreal in my phone and it told us to check out this place called Quartier Latin. We put an address into Franky and found a parking spot near the area. We then walked to where we thought it would be. At first we felt like there were many gays in this area. We realized we were actually in a gay area of Montreal called Gay Village! There were restaurants packed with all men…no women. Some funny bars/ restaurants and even a porn theatre. Well we looked at a map after walking through the village and found that we made a wrong turn. I knew it was right around there but the guys didn’t believe me! Laxy kept trying to put his arms around me and hold my hand….. After walking through the village strip once more we found the quartier. This place was really cool it had a lot of food places and was neat. We watched some weird clown show, and a guy singing at a bar/restaurant. I really liked how the main language was french, it was neat to hear the people talk. We went to a place to eat called double pizza, they had a canada specialy called Poutine (pronounced Puts’n). They are french fries, smothered in gravy topped with cheese curds. The cheese curds part is gross but the other parts are extremely delicious. We then decided it would be a good idea to skip the hostel, leave montreal that night and drive through the night to Niagara falls, see the falls and then cross the border earlier in the day in case we experience any problems. This is because we heard that laxys cousin was stuck at the border for half a day trying to get back into the united states because he didn’t have his passport. I took the wheel and drove to the falls. We got there at about 5am and I found another park to park and sleep in. This one was nice because it wasn’t too hot when we woke up.
7/16/2009 – Day 24.
We woke up and went to the falls. Niagara falls is amazing! The sound of all that water rushing down the waterfall is crazy. The canada falls in my opinion were cooler than the american ones. They are both super cool though. Theres a boat that takes you into the heart of the falls called Maid of the Mist. So wild. People can also go on little paths that take you right down to the base of the falls. We walked to the Bridge to USA and took many photos. After a few hours we made our way back. It was time to cross the border back into the united states. Jake was pretty nervous as we were driving up to the border check. We get to the border, give the man our paperwork. He asks us a few questions then tells us that next time jake goes to canada he needs his passport. We were good to go! It was easier getting out of canada then getting in. We were all relieved. We were now in New York. We stopped at a Dunks and a taco bell. We were on our way to Pittsburgh. We got into Pittsburgh and found a hotel. We also found this amazing view of the city. There are so many bridges here! Driving into Pittsburgh is cool too because the city pops up through mountains of green trees. We checked into the hotel and relaxed for the night. The hotel concierge looked like Hurley from LOST but like 100 pounds lighter.
7/17/2009 – Day 25.
We checked out and went down to southside pittsburgh. We found a place in Oakland called the original hot dog shop. So delicious. I got a hotdog, fries and a drink. They have fries called O fries, stands for original fries. Seriously amazing. Laxy ordered a large, it was HUGE! We ate upstairs and it was hot as hell up there. The soda was also warm and flat. But the food was amazing. We then walked around southside, adam got a personality test at a scientology place. There was also a super cool bookstore that had a neat upstairs area, but it was hot up there too. We then went to a park, played some catch and watched some kids play at a park. We went to 711 and i got this tea that was in a mini milk jug, tasted good too. We then went to PNC park and went to a pirates game. The pirates played the giants and beat em. There was a huge rain thunder storm that came out of nowhere right before the game so there was a delay. They were all set for the storm because they had the field covered. Adam and I lied to Jake and Laxy and told them adam got caught for stealing. They totally fell for it. There were also $1 hot dogs! such a steal, although I was already full from lunch I got 2 hot dogs to take advantage of the deal. I also saw a kid barfing into a bag. They were also giving away free towels. The game went into 14 innings and we got to do a 14th inning stretch. In the bottom of the 14th the first batter hit a walk off bomb into the water. We went back to the viewpoint and then made our way to Cleveland. We found a rest area outside of Cleveland and slept there.
7/18/2009 – Day 26.
We woke up and found a movie theater. Adam and I watched Harry Potter, Jake watched public enemies and Laxy watched Angels and Demons. Harry potter was good. I give it 1 and a half thumbs up. We then drove by the ball park. We found a kinkos around the area so laxy could print something out. We then went to the Indians game. They played the Seattle Mariners. It was also a bobblehead giveaway. Surfin Sizemore. Our original seats were up high in the outfield, next to these annoying girls and “intersting” family behind us. Laxy and I found some seats behind home plate though so we upgraded. It was better because there were very little people in the section and you could see better. The Indians lost. We then went to a white castle. This time around it was much better. I got 4 sliders, fried okra, and mashed potatoes. Dined like a king. As we were leaving it started to rain. We then hit the road for chicago. Jake was driving. He got pulled over, but I’m not sure exactly why. He was just warned though. Laxy also had an interesting encounter at the gas station with some guy who was talking to them but being an idiot at the same time. We found a rest area about an hour outside of chicago and pulled over for some sleep.
